love

I have spent the weekend with two men, Father Richard Rohr and Paulo Cuelho.  I watched an interview with Father Richard Rohr about his book Immortal Diamond and then read The Alchemist.

So here are some things that stayed with me

Father Richard Rohr

‘We love to fall in love but to fall in love you have to take the risk of changing yourself  for this person.  You have to let go and that’s why a lot of relationships don’t last because you have to let go of who you thought you were before you love that person.  You are giving them power to change you.  If you don’t give your friend, your partner the power to change you, I don’t think you love them and your unconscious knows that, your soul knows that.

Once you have been able to do that, to give yourself over to that other person and if the other person is growing up too, it helps lead to your true self (if it’s mutual).  If it isn’t mutual, I’ve seen marriages pull people down into their smaller selves.  You have to have someone who wants you to grow to your fullest self, to who you really are and if you don’t have that, I have seen people become smaller after marriage….Love has to expand’

Paulo Coelho – The Alchemist

‘You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his Personal Legend.  If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because it wasn’t true love…The love that speaks the Language of the World….

If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil  And one can always come back.  If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return.’

So the day after Hallmark & Hershey love day 🙂  my gift to you are these words.

In the end, real deal, life enhancing, soul discovering love requires bravery.  To be willing to give another person power, trusting that real, true love will help lead you to your true self.  The bravery to ride out the fears, to be vulnerable, to be willing to show ourselves fully to another person.  The fortitude not to run away because it scares you. When it is real, when it is mutual and when it is true, Love Expands ♥

* I have done my best to transcribe an interview, any errors are mine and unintentional.  The interview was from Super Soul Sunday *
